About 2022 Virtual DoorKnock:
For decades, AmCham Taiwan representatives have fanned out across Washington, D.C. each summer to conduct an annual “Doorknock” series of calls on Administration, Capitol Hill, think tanks and other stakeholders to discuss Taiwan trade and investment. Due to the pandemic, we did not travel to DC in 2020 or 2021, and this year we will “knock” via a series of Webex video calls.
The “virtual delegation” will be led by Chairperson Vincent Shih for one-hour calls in the evenings (typically Tuesday and Thursday) over June and July. In addition, technology allows any AmCham member to register and participate in one or more sessions, according to issue expertise and firm interest.
Virtual DoorKnock Ground Rules:
- Reserved for members and member companies’ employees only
- Webex would be the main platform for the series
- All participants need to be registered prior to the event to get the meeting link, code and password
- Q&A rules will be announced at the beginning of each session, the regular session would be an hour with Q&A 10-15 minutes.
Virtual DoorKnock Series Topics may include:
• Fall-out from Ukraine crisis (sanctions, energy markets, etc.)
• Commercial impact of Cross-Strait and Bj-DC tensions and the newly articulated “China Strategy,” from Secretary of State Blinken.
• USG initiatives on investment attraction and supply chain (globally: USICA and its “Chips Act” for which passage is expected this quarter; bilaterally: the Technology Trade & Investment Collaboration, or TTIC).
• Impact of USG roll-out of Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, IPEF (in which Taiwan is not directly included) on U.S.-Taiwan engagement.
• USTR’s plans for Taiwan which now include an upgraded bilateral set of talks beyond the Trade & Investment Framework, TIFA, talks and USTR’s own “White Paper,” known as the National Trade Estimates Report (NTE), and the Special 301 Report covering IP protections, which was released in April and was largely complimentary of Taiwan.
• Prospects for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), or for movement on a Double Taxation Agreement.
• Prospects for Taiwan visits and inter-action post-U.S. mid-term elections.
