AmCham Advanced Learning Lab Seminar
Do these challenges sound familiar to you: When collaborating cross-functionally, do you find it difficult to show your point of view to business leaders and team members from other functions? Do you feel that if they could only see what you know, the overall outcome would be much, much better? Research shows that you are not alone in facing this challenge.
Two Nobel-prize winners in behavior economics—Daniel Kahneman and Richard Thaler—have shown that when we collaborate with others, especially cross-functionally, two factors invisibly creep into our decisions. And because we are not aware of what these two factors are—or how and when they creep in—most cross-functional teams do not have a strategy in place for identifying and minimizing their impact. As a result, most cross-functional collaborations go through the same all-too-familiar process: disagreements, delays, and defensive decisions based not on local expertise but on authority and back-channel communication. The outcome? Projects and initiatives end up with much lower impact than feasible.
Is there a better way to collaborate? That’s what this seminar is designed to show you. You will learn
- What the two hidden barriers are that throw up barriers to effective cross-functional collaboration
- What you can do to quickly and easily identify them in your interactions with others
- Which strategies and competencies you need to minimize their impact, creating higher-impact cross-functional outcomes
