AmCham Special Luncheon: Taiwan Election Outlook

AmCham Taiwan has invited the Presidential Candidates to share their insights and opinions based on international and domestic issues of interest to our chamber members from September to November. To help Chamber members better understand the implications of the election, 30 days before the Taiwan Election, AmCham Taiwan will host a panel discussion featuring former AIT Director William A. Stanton; Liao Da-Chi, the Emeritus Professor of the Graduate Institute of Political Science at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU); and Lev Nachman, the political scientist. Samson Ellis, Bloomberg Taipei Bureau Chief, will be the moderator for this panel.
今年九月至十月期間,台灣美國商會邀請了總統參選人,就會員關切的國際與國內議題分享他們的理念和洞見。為了使商會成員更了解選舉整體發展,台灣美國商會將在台灣選舉前30天舉辦一場午餐會,邀請前任美國在台協會處長司徒文先生、國立中山大學政治學研究所榮譽教授廖達琪女士與台灣政治專家南樂先生擔任與談人,並請彭博社台北分社長Samson Ellis擔任座談主持人,以座談討論方式分享他們的看法。

About the Moderator:
Samson Ellis, Bureau Chief of Bloomberg Taiwan
彭博新聞 台北分社社長李晨楷先生
Samson Ellis oversees all news coverage from Bloomberg’s Taipei bureau. Prior to his current role, Samson led Bloomberg’s award-winning television operations as senior producer in Hong Kong for eight years. Samson joined Bloomberg TV in 2009.
Before that, Samson was a writer/producer working with Discovery Channels based in Taiwan and editor-in-chief of FTV’s English-language news show. He has a master’s degree in Chinese from the University of Edinburgh.
About the Panelists:
William A. Stanton, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan from 2009 to 2012, is currently a chair professor teaching geopolitics at National Cheng Chi University.

He previously served (2019 -2021) as Vice President and professor at National Yang-Ming University, 2017-2019 on the faculty at National Taiwan University, and 2013-2017 as the George K.C. Yeh Distinguished Chair Professor and founding director of the Center for Asia Policy at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). From October 2014 through January 2016, he was also NTHU’s Senior Vice President for Global Affairs. Before his academic career in Taiwan, Dr. Stanton served for 34 years as a U.S. diplomat, including overseas tours in Lebanon, Pakistan, Australia, South Korea, twice in Beijing, and Taiwan. He received his Doctorate in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Liao Da-Chi, the Emeritus Professor of the Graduate Institute of Political Science at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU).
國立中山大學政治研究所榮譽退休教授 廖達琪女士
Da-chi Liao, distinguished professor of the Graduate Institute of Political Science at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1990. Her professional focus has been on legislative studies, constitutional design, identity problems, information technology and politics, and election politics. From 2004 to 2006, she served as president of the Taiwanese Political Science Association. She has published more than 70 refereed journal articles and edited two books before 2006. In recent years, she has concentrated on studying how to utilize ICT technologies as a tool to analyze politics and improve the quality of democracy in Taiwan.
Lev Nachman, a political scientist and an Assistant Professor at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.

He teaches in the College of Social Science and the International College of Innovation. He is also a Nonresident Fellow at the Atlantic Council Global China Hub and the National Bureau of Asian Research. He has published his first book “Taiwan: A Contested Democracy Under Threat”
