AmCham Special Luncheon
The Edelman Trust Barometer is the largest global survey and foremost authority on trust in business, government, media, and NGOs. Now in its 20th year, the Trust Barometer, which launches each year at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, surveys more than 34,000 people in 28 markets. In total, we have surveyed over 2 million respondents and 145 companies, researched and analyzed 87,000 employee reviews and more than 150 peer-reviewed academic articles, and conducted interviews with business leaders around the world.
The findings clearly show that trust matters across all groups of a company’s stakeholders, creating stronger consumer sentiment and purchase behaviors, greater loyalty among employees, less unnecessary interference from regulators, and greater support from investors. Trusted companies outperform their sectors in market and enjoy more positive media coverage.
This year, we will be looking at the dimensions of trust in detail—the relative importance of an institution’s competence and its ethics – where ethics account for 76 percent of Trust: integrity, purpose or dependability.
