AmCham 2022 Business Climate Survey: Bullish Sentiment on Corporate and Taiwan Growth Again
While 2021 proved to be another challenging year for the world economy, Taiwan once again demonstrated its resilience with an impressive economic performance. As demand for Taiwan exports remain high, relatively high gross domestic product (GDP) growth is expected again this year. Reflecting this trend, the results of the 2022 Business Climate Survey indicated high levels of optimism among member companies regarding Taiwan’s economic outlook.

Vincent Shih of Microsoft Elected 2022 AmCham Taiwan Chairperson
TAIPEI, Taiwan – Vincent Shih, Assistant General Counsel of Microsoft and GM of Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs of Microsoft Taiwan, was elected as the 2022 chairperson of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan. He will begin his term on January 1, 2022.

BlackRock’s Leo Seewald elected chairman of AmCham Taipei
Leo Seewald, chairman and country head of BlackRock Investment Management (Taiwan), has been elected as the 2019 chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, the organization announced Wednesday.
Seewald served as AmCham Taipei’s standing vice chairman in 2018 and has been an active member of the organization’s Asset Management Committee. He helped lead the group’s delegation during its annual Doorknock trip to Washington this past summer.

AmCham Taipei reports a record 11 issues solved in 2017 White Paper
AmCham Taipei reported today that 11 of the 83 issues in its 2017 Taiwan White Paper have been resolved – the most of any year since the organization started tracking the results in 2004. Another record 21 issues were showing good progress.
It’s a dramatic improvement from last year when AmCham Taipei reported that none of the 80 issues raised in the 2016 Taiwan White Paper was considered to be resolved. Only eight issues made significant progress in the previous document.

AmCham survey: Optimism about economy mixed with worries about labor, energy
Most member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei are optimistic about Taiwan’s economy and their own profitability over the next three years, a new survey said Wednesday.
But the business leaders had serious concerns about energy, the labor law and the way regulations are made, according to the 2018 Business Climate Survey, conducted for AmCham over the past two months by PwC Taiwan.

President Trump recently issued an Executive Order directing the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to work with other relevant agencies within the U.S. government to produce an Omnibus Report on Significant Trade Deficits.
