AmCham Taiwan Statement on the U.S.-Taiwan Tariff Arrangement
TAIPEI, Taiwan — The American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan welcomes the announcement of a tariff arrangement reached between the United States and Taiwan following multiple rounds of bilateral negotiations, providing greater clarity for international businesses. The Chamber commends the negotiating teams on both sides for their sustained engagement in advancing a more predictable framework for bilateral trade and investment.
“The announced reduction in Taiwan’s baseline tariffs, along with provisions tied to investment and supply-chain cooperation, is a constructive step toward reducing uncertainty for companies operating across the U.S.-Taiwan economic corridor,” said AmCham Taiwan Chairperson Anita Chen. “Greater alignment with tariff treatment applied to other major U.S. economic partners will support long-term planning and give companies more confidence in investment decisions.”
The agreement’s investment-related components are closely tied to the semiconductor supply chain and broader technology ecosystem in the United States. Ensuring that these commitments can be implemented efficiently will be critical, particularly for the many small and medium-sized enterprises that form the backbone of this ecosystem. In this context, timely passage of the U.S.-Taiwan Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation would play a vital role by reducing friction, accelerating capital deployment, and supporting execution of cross-border investment.
At the same time, AmCham emphasizes that Taiwan’s economic relationship with the United States extends well beyond semiconductors alone. Continued U.S. investment in Taiwan across advanced manufacturing, services, and innovation-driven industries reflects the island’s broader strengths as a diversified and open economy. Recognizing and reinforcing this breadth is important to ensure a balanced and resilient bilateral partnership.
As the details of the arrangement proceed through further review and legislative consideration, AmCham will continue to assess its implications for member companies. The Chamber underscores that Taiwan’s economic success has been built on open markets and rules-based trade. Deepening U.S.-Taiwan cooperation should continue to reinforce these principles.
AmCham Taiwan remains committed to working constructively with policymakers in both Washington and Taipei to advance a modern, growth-oriented trade agenda that strengthens supply-chain resilience, supports innovation, and delivers tangible benefits for businesses and workers on both sides.
