Former President Tsai Ing-wen Stresses Taiwan’s Strategic Role in Global Supply-Chain Stability
at AmCham Taiwan’s 2025 Annual General Meeting
TAIPEI, Taiwan — The U.S.-Taiwan economic relationship remains dynamic and strong, with record bilateral trade, rising investment, and deepening supply-chain cooperation despite global geopolitical uncertainty. That was the message from former President Tsai Ing-wen at the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan’s 2025 Annual General Meeting on November 18.
In her remarks, President Tsai highlighted significant new U.S. investments in advanced computing, cloud services, and green energy, alongside record-high Taiwanese investment in the United States, describing this two-way expansion as evidence of growing trust and shared economic priorities. She noted that Taiwan’s strengthened resilience and high-tech leadership continue to anchor cooperation with American industry. Tsai added that cross-Strait security remains a regional and global concern, stressing that Taiwan’s geographical location is particularly important to the defense of the first island chain.
The event’s keynote speaker, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan Raymond Greene, reaffirmed the strong trajectory of U.S.-Taiwan economic relations, describing the current period as a “golden age” marked by policy momentum, expanding bilateral investment, and growing collaboration across strategic sectors. He highlighted the shared democratic and economic values that continue to anchor the partnership as both sides prepare to enter a new chapter, coinciding with the United States’ 250th anniversary and AmCham Taiwan’s 75th anniversary.
Meanwhile, AmCham Chairperson Dan Silver noted that the past year had been “an eventful one” for both the Chamber and the global business landscape. He emphasized Taiwan’s role as a “global guardian and champion of democratic ideals” and reiterated AmCham’s commitment to active dialogue with stakeholders in the United States and Taiwan, stressing that the Chamber remains a strong advocate for Taiwan’s importance to the U.S. economy and for ensuring that Taiwan continues to be “the best place possible to do business.”
More than 200 AmCham Taiwan members and guests participated in this year’s Annual General Meeting. The Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the continued growth of U.S.–Taiwan economic relations and to working with government and industry partners to advance shared priorities that contribute to a stable, competitive, and internationally aligned business environment.
