AmCham Highlights Strength of U.S.-Taiwan Economic Ties, Calls for Continued Regulatory Progress at the 2025 Hsieh Nien Fan

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Under President Lai Ching-te’s leadership, Taiwan continues to solidify its position as a prominent global economic player and a trusted partner to the United States. Strong commitment to good regulatory practices and economic resilience will be critical in ensuring that momentum continues.

That was a central message from the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan at its 57th annual Hsieh Nien Fan banquet, held on March 20 at the Taipei Marriott Hotel.

“Taiwan consistently punches above its weight in global trade and investment,” and the U.S.-Taiwan commercial relationship is stronger than ever, said AmCham Taiwan Chairperson Dan Silver. He pointed to a record 40% of Taiwan’s total foreign investment going to the United States in 2024 and Taiwan’s position as the United States’ seventh-largest trading partner as clear indicators of its success.

Silver also underscored the importance of regulatory reforms that foster a consultative, innovative, and agile business environment. AmCham reiterated the need to resolve double taxation between Taiwan and the United States, a move that would further enhance bilateral trade and investment.

Delivering the evening’s keynote remarks, President Lai Ching-te noted that “a great time to invest in Taiwan is now. We will continue to better connect relevant government agencies and align with international standards to foster a friendlier investment environment.” President Lai added that he is “confident that Taiwanese and American companies can leverage their respective high-tech expertise and invest in each other, boosting growth in industrial innovation and development for both our economies.”

Raymond Greene, director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), in his remarks stressed the United States’ priority to advance the economic partnership. “On behalf of President Trump and his administration, let me underscore our commitment to work hand-in-hand with Taiwan,” he said. “Our cooperation is more critical than ever and is making both the United States and Taiwan safer, stronger, and more prosperous.  U.S.-Taiwan economic ties in particular have never been closer.”

AmCham was also honored to have Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy delivering special remarks at the Hsieh Nien Fan. “It was a tremendous honor to spend this evening with the leaders of Taiwan and to celebrate our shared interests, ambitions and futures,” he said. “By deepening our trade relations anchored on the Alaska LNG Project, we can create a system that benefits both our economies and creates a brighter future for us both.”

This year’s Hsieh Nien Fan was attended by nearly 650 members and guests, and around 150 government officials. The banquet is held to express gratitude to the Taiwan government, local business leaders, and other stakeholders for their constructive engagement with the international business community. AmCham looks forward to closer collaboration with like-minded counterparts in helping Taiwan build strength through prosperity.
