AmCham Taiwan Living AmCham Series Taichung Expands ESG Sustainable Footprint
TAICHUNG, Taiwan – AmCham members on July 28 visited Taichung as part of the Chamber’s Living AmCham Taiwan series. This visit saw the Chamber’s ESG Co-Learning Program extended to Taichung while focusing on understanding the city’s plan for sustainable governance. Through the Chamber’s international platform for public-private collaboration, AmCham aims to jointly explore various possibilities for sustainable development, promote engagement and implementation in the ESG field, and establish deep connections between AmCham and local communities in Taiwan, creating a resilient and sustainable future for all parties involved.
Taichung City Mayor Lu Shiow-yen was invited to share the city’s experience in sustainable governance with AmCham members with other members of Taichung City Government also in attendance. Mayor Lu stated that in recent years, Taichung City has actively responded to international trends in sustainable development and net-zero emissions. In recognition of these efforts, Taichung received a remarkable achievement by winning the Outstanding City Award at the second Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards for livable and sustainable cities.
Members also visited Micron Technology Taiwan Ltd.’s new advanced A3 wafer fab, green restaurant, and had the chance to see Micron’s ongoing efforts in leading technology, sustainable operations, and promoting DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). Micron produces state-of-the-art DRAM technology in Taiwan, reinforcing Taiwan’s advantages and position in the global semiconductor industry. The company also prioritizes environmental protection projects and talent development, showing its commitment to fostering a sustainable future and giving back to the local community.
Chamber President Patrick P. Lin was honored to dedicate the first event of his tenure to Taichung, as his father is from Fengyuan. Taichung has always been a key hub for Taiwan’s infrastructure and manufacturing industries due to its strategic location and has actively developed its semiconductor industry in recent years. Lin extended AmCham’s gratitude to Mayor Lu for sharing the city’s experience in sustainable governance and to Micron, a loyal member of AmCham, for arranging the visit and allowing members to understand memory-module-related processes and sustainable concepts.
