AmCham Taiwan announces departure of President Andrew Wylegala
The American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham Taiwan) announces the resignation of Chamber President Andrew Wylegala, who is leaving to pursue a new career in Washington, D.C. Wylegala leaves after two years of distinguished service, which has focused on steering the Chamber through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and into a period of growth and diversification for Taiwan and the Chamber.
Wylegala’s last day of service will be February 17, after which the office will be led by Amy Chang. She will serve as the Interim President while the Chamber actively searches for Wylegala’s successor. Chang is a retired U.S. Foreign Services Officer who also served as AmCham Taiwan Senior Director of Government & Public Affairs from 2013 to 2019.
Wylegala has led a team of 15 staff that in November 2021 completed the transformation of AmCham Taipei into AmCham Taiwan and organized the celebration of the Chamber’s 70th Anniversary with the participation of President Tsai Ing-wen and American Institute in Taiwan Director Sandra Oudkirk. His program and outreach innovations brought AmCham to its high watermarks in membership and financial performance while bringing in additional high-performing staff, leaving the Chamber on a strong footing to maximize commercial opportunities in 2023 and beyond.
Chairperson Vincent Shih noted, “For the past year as our Chamber’s elected Chairperson, I have had the pleasure of working with Andrew. Through our joint tenure at the helm of the Chamber, we have been able to support our members, improve the Taiwan business environment, and underscore to the world the depth and productivity of the important U.S.-Taiwan relationship.”
Wylegala added, “It has been an honor to contribute to this strong and influential international business organization for the past two years. I am confident that it will continue to advance the effort to enhance Taiwan’s trade and investment engagement with the United States, as well as the interests of the members, and support the economically transformative expansion of Taiwan into the United States and other markets, creating value globally.” He looks forward to staying engaged with AmCham in his new capacity, both to ensure a smooth transition and to support the Chamber’s return to in-person Doorknock visits this coming summer.
